Full Arm Wax Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours (and Keep Skin Calm)

By Vanity Private Studio | September 7, 2026

I hear it all the time after appointments: “Amazing place, and Liz's waxing service was excellent! Will come back again.” The single most important rule for the first 48 hours after a Full Arm Wax is simple: keep your skin cool and unbothered. That means no heavy sweating, no hot baths, no sun, and no tight sleeves rubbing the area. In Burbank, especially around Magnolia Park, heat and dry air can make irritation flare faster than you’d expect.

Full Arm Wax Aftercare in Burbank: what to do in the first 48 hours after waxing

Quick reminder: Full Arm Wax is 30 minutes and starts at $50. I wax from hands to shoulders, then I finish with a calming serum so you leave feeling soft, polished, and less red.

The first 0 to 24 hours after Full Arm Wax: keep it cool, clean, and loose

Right after waxing, your follicles are open and your skin is a little “awake.” That’s normal. What you do in the next day is what usually decides if you stay smooth and calm, or end up itchy and bumpy.

  • Take lukewarm showers only. Skip hot showers and baths. Heat tends to amplify redness.
  • Use a cool compress if you’re pink or warm. A clean, cool washcloth for a few minutes is often enough.
  • Avoid sweat. No intense workout, no sauna, no steam room. If you’re booked in August, Burbank’s warm, dry summer days make this one extra important.
  • Stay out of pools and hot tubs. Chlorine and heat are common irritation triggers right after waxing.
  • Wear loose sleeves. Friction is sneaky. If you’re coming from Magnolia Boulevard shopping, I always suggest bringing a loose long-sleeve for the trip home after an evening appointment.

If you have sensitive skin: keep product use minimal on day one. A gentle cleanse and a fragrance-free moisturizer, plus the soothing serum I apply, is usually plenty.

24 to 48 hours: don’t “test” your skin yet

Day two is when people start feeling normal again and accidentally overdo it. Keep skipping direct sun and tanning beds, and don’t put tight athletic sleeves back on for a long workout. If you’re commuting in the heat or working long hours on set, keep the routine simple so you don’t create downtime: rinse after any sweat, pat dry, moisturize lightly.

Your first week in Burbank: smooth arms stay smooth with a few boundaries

If you loved that sleek finish and you’re already thinking, “I’ll come back again, ” the first week is where you protect the result. The two biggest troublemakers I see are heat plus friction, and people picking at tiny bumps.

Sun and sweat: In our warmer months, especially August, direct sun on freshly waxed skin can lead to irritation and dark spots. If your arms will be exposed, cover up or use sun protection once your skin is calm. And if you do sweat, don’t let salty sweat sit on the area for hours. A quick rinse helps.

Hands off: Don’t scratch, pick, or try to “dig out” a hair. That’s how a small bump turns into a lingering mark.

Plan around your schedule: A lot of my regulars drive in from Glendale, North Hollywood, Toluca Lake, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, and Sun Valley. If you’ve got a long commute, bring loose layers and keep the aftercare in your bag: clean tissue, a gentle moisturizer, and water. Simple wins.

Products that actually help after waxing (and what I’d pause for 48 to 72 hours)

You don’t need a shelf of products to recover well. You need the right categories, used at the right time. I finish every waxing service with soothing serum, and at home I generally recommend keeping it gentle for a couple of days.

Use

  • Aloe vera gel or a simple fragrance-free moisturizer
  • Cool compresses for short bursts if you’re red
  • A tiny amount of antiseptic ointment for isolated bumps (not all over)

Pause

  • Perfumed lotions and body sprays on the area
  • Harsh scrubs and rough exfoliating gloves for at least 48 hours
  • Active acids until 48 to 72 hours, then patch test first (salicylic, glycolic)

At 48 to 72 hours, gentle exfoliation is usually your best move for preventing ingrown hairs. Start light, patch test, and don’t exfoliate angry skin.

When to text me, and when it’s just normal waxing recovery

A little redness, warmth, or tiny bumps right after waxing can be normal, especially on sensitive skin. What I don’t want you doing is waiting and hoping when something is clearly getting worse. If you have persistent swelling, spreading redness, pus, severe pain, or any reaction that isn’t improving after 48 hours, reach out to me. I’ll talk you through what you’re seeing and what to do next.

“Liz is an absolute hero... Even with my sensitive skin, she manages to find the best solutions, and always checks in on me.”

If you’re new to arm waxing, I wrote a step-by-step prep guide that pairs perfectly with this aftercare: what to do before your first Full Arm Wax. If bumps are your usual issue, you’ll also want my guide to razor bumps vs waxing bumps on the arms.
